Celebrating 10 Great Years of Tarot Card Reading in Malaysia
People sometimes say they don’t know where the time has gone, which most certainly is the case for me in the last 10 years of conducting tarot card readings here in Malaysia.
Yet even today, with the increase in the sophistication of various modalities and increased learning of the practitioners here in Malaysia, there is still an overall misunderstanding of what tarot card reading is all about. Therefore, I’m going to use this article to perhaps enlighten some of the people and their misconceptions. So, first, let us uncover some of the mysteries and misconceptions on Tarot reading.
Typically, most people struggle with the concept of someone randomly shuffling seventy-eight Tarot cards and then reading them by laying out the cards in a spread to give some meaning and direction to their future life.
However, this scepticism is often based on ignorance of the Tarot cards, exacerbated by the simple fact that they have never explored the history of Tarot, investigated how Tarot works. More importantly, have never experienced a tarot reading by a genuine professional tarot reader.
One of the critical misconceptions is that Tarot cards serve only to tell the future, which is incorrect. When used traditionally, Tarot cards speak of learning from the past, offers practical advice for the present and offers guidance, solutions, and ideas to help move forward with the future.
Purpose of The Tarot Cards and Readings
Tarot readers aim to help clients fully understand what has happened in a particular situation and how the problem is influenced by what is going on in their lives. It also looks at how their attitude to the overall condition also affects the issue. By offering this information to the client, it is hoped that the client can make better-informed decisions about what they should do next.
To offer an accurate reading, Tarot readers require the cooperation and understanding of the person they are reading for; one could say that the energy exchange is a two-way flow. Nonetheless, even in these so-called spiritually enlightened times, doubts based on ignorance of the ‘Art of Tarot’ remain.
Since the early 1800s, Tarot reading has been practised professionally. There are tens of thousands of practitioners worldwide delivering Tarot reading services to those seeking some meaning in their current life and some direction for their future.
As is the case in any industry, Tarot has an array of most excellent practitioners, whose professionalism shines out like a beacon and acts as a standard for others. Alongside those who read tarot cards for a profession, many would-be tarot readers want to learn more, read many books, and take classes to understand how to read Tarot. Yet, they only end up reading for their friends and family.
Engaging Tarot Cards Readings
When I teach students, who are engaging with the Tarot for the first time in their life, I have a system whereby I teach them the basic meanings of all the cards. Studying the individual cards, I ask them to highlight interesting, intriguing, and dominant images. Attention to such detail is essential, as these prominent images give discrete messages to help them with their reading.
I always read for my students to see how it is to be done properly. They can often be confused because the reading I give, based on the cards displayed in the spread, often bear little or no relationship to the original meanings of the cards. Quite simply, this is because I read intuitively. Therefore, cards are merely a channel for me to deliver an accurate reading. This is the difference between a novice and a professional psychic reader.
In very basic terms, whilst the message for each card is always the same for each deck, as one looks at the different types of decks and associated artwork, one starts to discover the nuances of each deck and the different hidden meanings within the cards themselves.
There are literally thousands of different tarot deck designs produced by many designers; some are sublime, and some are a complete enigma as to why they have any relation to tarot reading at all.
The Message Of The Tarot Card
When performed traditionally, a Tarot card reading can place matters into perspective clearly and understandably. Whether or not you believe in spiritual or esoteric things, or even in the art of telling the future, a Tarot card reading can help guide you to better understand your own thoughts. To help realise potentially dangerous patterns in your life and have a better understanding of yourself. Even the question you ask in your mind can help you understand something about yourself, and in this way, a Tarot card reading can truly help you.
