A Guide to Trusting Your Intuition
Are you aware of your inner voice?
Do you pay attention to it?
Have you ever taken a moment to reflect on the thoughts that echo within you?
Intuition Intelligence: What is it all about?
We are not talking about the voice that can hold you back! We are talking about the one that softly whispers ideas and suggestions to you, the kind that the logical ‘other voice’ might try to shut down, by shouting out “Are you mad!?”
Our inner voice can offer us valuable ideas and suggestions, even though we might feel hesitant to listen to them. However, listening to our ‘inner voice’ requires stepping out of our comfort zone, which we often try to avoid at all costs; even if the cost is living a life of mediocrity instead of our dreams.
Many people tend to prioritise the negative voice over their intuition, which is gentler and can be often overlooked. Unfortunately, our intuition may not always be acknowledged or recognised, even though it has our best interest at heart. Our ‘Shadow Voice’ (the louder, more aggressive one) does have our welfare at heart too, but in a protective way.
One might be thinking, “What’s wrong with protecting ourselves? ” Basically, it limits us and ultimately erodes our well-being at the soul level. As one might appreciate, this is not good for our physical or emotional well-being. If we are unfulfilled at a soul level, slowly and imperceptibly we will develop a nagging feeling of general discontent which can have a rippling effect on our mind, mood, self-esteem and ultimately our physical and mental health.
“Intuition is the ability to acquire knowledge without recourse to conscious reasoning. Different fields use the word “intuition” in very different ways, including but not limited to direct access to unconscious knowledge; unconscious cognition; inner sensing; inner insight to unconscious pattern-recognition; and the ability to understand something instinctively, without any need for conscious reasoning.” – Wikipedia
Intuition And The Decision-Making Process
Human intuition provides insight into our innermost selves and can aid us in making decisions beyond what is known through conscious thought, such as recognising patterns or reading people’s intentions non-verbally (body language). It takes time to develop a trusting relationship with intuition, but those comfortable with listening to their inner guidance can save themselves from making bad decisions and experience positive outcomes quite quickly. By tapping into this sixth sense, we can gain clarity with our intuition within ourselves and open up new possibilities in life.
We don’t have to reject logic to benefit from intuition. Intuition and logic can be used together to access all available information and knowledge, especially in decision-making, without limiting oneself to conscious thought processes or analytical approaches. By utilising both logic and intuition, we can identify our purpose, set long-term goals, and create sustainable plans to achieve them. This alignment can lead to more synchronised decision-making and progress towards those goals.
Intuition is a recognised form of intelligence, supported by scientific evidence, despite being perceived as mystical by some. Intuition is not a “woo-woo concept,” and it doesn’t have to be mysterious. Everyone has intuitive abilities – we just need to learn how to tap into them.
How Does Intuition Work?
The gentle voice of our intuition will, if listened to properly, stretch us beyond our comfort zone, but never more than we are capable of. Our intuition will challenge us but also support us. It always has our best interests at heart, at every level:
Physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It will not only gently nudge us in scary directions which will yield huge and unimaginable rewards, but it will also gently nudge us when it’s time to stop or turn around.
When we tune into our intuitive thinking and allow ourselves to be guided by it, we will be surprised at how much easier formerly assumed challenges will become.
Also, how much good fortune lands in our lap (we call it synchronicity) Then we start to feel at ease with ourselves about those questionable decisions and associated life experiences that we always felt were wrong.
If we believe that we are unfamiliar with our intuition, learning to tune into it will require time and patience. At first, we may be unsure which voice is which, especially as our ‘Shadow Voice’ can often sound very reasonable. Using our intuition is very much like using your body muscles, we need to use it regularly for it to be in the shape we want.
Difference Between The Intuitive Voice and The Shadow Voice
So how do we get to know our intuition better?
First of all, we can start to become aware of those hunches, feelings, and ideas that crop up. Pay attention to the voice that accompanies it. Is it gentle, positive, or supportive?
If it’s aggressive, domineering, or using scare-mongering tactics it’s more likely to be our shadow voice. If we’re experiencing a feeling of warning, is it a loud and threatening one? (shadow). Or an insistent knowing one? (intuition).
Can We Rely on Our Intuition for Guidance?
The interesting point about trusting our intuition when it’s unfamiliar to us is that it’s not based on logic and often cannot be justified logically:
Every time I try to use my logic or brain in a Tarot reading, it’s wrong!!!.
However, with practice and trust, we can develop and rely upon our intuition. Belief and trust are essential. To trust that the intuitive knowing has our best interests at heart. It will be easier to shrug off your shadow voice and that of others, and those who will fear for our best interests on our behalf.
The key to developing this essential trust in one’s intuition is to start small. So the advice would be:
Not to make life-changing difficult decisions based on intuition if you’re not familiar with it! One might still be confusing the two ‘inner voices’. Do ask your intuition to guide you with smaller decisions, and wait for the gentle knowing feeling to arrive. Don’t expect an instant answer, but watch out, for it will come and you should realise it when it does.
Over time, as we tune in more and more, we find that we suffer less from our worries and anxieties. We start to believe and trust that all will work out well. Soon enough, we begin to appreciate that our issues start to turn out better than we could ever have imagined!
Tapping Into our Intuition
Meditating for just five minutes has the power to bring about significant changes in our life. Stress and fatigue can interfere with our ability to tap into our intuition, which is why taking time out to meditate can have so many benefits. Providing an opportunity to gain a new, deeper perspective on ourselves and our surroundings by freeing up mental space and allowing a greater sense of calm, peace and clarity.
With so many demands on our lives, we often forget how important it is to take care of ourselves. Meditation offers a way of doing that; it’s free and easily accessible. Guided meditations are particularly helpful for those who find it difficult to switch off thoughts or enter into any kind of stillness on their own. Allowing the guidance of a professional can help you relax and provide insights into issues that may have been previously blocked from view. So, we can give ourselves permission and take five minutes out of our day for some mindfulness: enjoy the opportunity to be present in the moment without external distractions—just yourself and your inner world, connecting with feelings of pure stillness and joy!
Developing intuition can be done in many ways, including third-eye meditation with the realignment of the chakra. For beginners, it can seem daunting overwhelming and confusing. However, a guided meditation can help by realigning chakras and activating the third-eye. This is a great starting point for those looking to improve their intuition.
