Occasionally during or after a reading I hear such comments as “I didn’t hear anything that I didn’t already know”, other comments include “Oh! My family and friends already told me that”…
“But I Already Knew That…”
At this point the deeply sarcastic element of my personality starts to jump around and retaliate, however, my role is to help the client, not put them down! Instead I treat such comments as a reinforcement of the right message coming across. If a Tarot reader informs a client of ‘something that they already knew’ this merely underlines the fact they understand the basis of the issues at the core of that client’s problem, and the route to understanding and dealing with those issues, which is intrinsically important and relevant to the client.
We (Tarot Readers) must not make the mistake of thinking that we are merely “foretelling the future”, we are not! We are looking at the various options (life paths) a client has; ‘Life Paths’, ‘Life Choices’ or ‘Pathways’ – these are the various options the client has in order to progress or resolve a situation. Therefore it is necessary to have an understanding of the client’s current situation and what history / actions in their life precipitated matters for the client to arrive at ‘this point’ in the first place. ‘This point’ is a point in time whereby the client feels the need to seek advice from a Tarot Reader.
When a reading is reiterating known information about a current state or issue, it is taking an active role in providing reassurance and confirmation of the situation, as a precursor to the guidance then given and, hopefully, facilitating a way forward that encompasses a spiritual journey. This reiteration of the past and current situation is a vital reconfirmation, which reassures the client and lays the basis for the parameters of the answer to the question.
The options the client has, as laid down in a Tarot reading, are exactly that! Options…
As all of my clients know, I tell them that after the reading they can walk out of the door and do exactly the opposite of what has been suggested in the reading
“You have Free Will”…
This attitude, in turn, could allow the more cynical in the audience to assume that this is nothing more than a ‘Get out Clause’ for the accuracy of the reading. Let’s explore this…
Coming Full Circle – Tarot Reading
“You have Free Will” – YES! However, you are also a product of your parents (genetics) and the environment within which you were raised – ‘social conditioning’, so whilst you do have ‘free will’ on the other hand you are a ‘creature of habit’. Therefore when the Tarot reading reiterates something that the client already knows, it is in reality nothing more than a reconfirmation of who they are, the ‘habits’ they have cultured over the years and the basis for their current issues. Quite possibly, the accuracy of certain tarot readings has more to do with the ‘predictability’ of a client’s actions through habits borne from genetics and social conditioning. We are ‘Creatures of Habit’ indeed.
For the client to succeed in resolving their issue(s) the ‘circle’ needs to be broken; often the Tarot Reading points out the right path in order to break that circle. It is at this point the client’s ‘free will’ comes into play – will they listen or simply stumble along a predictable path…
In conclusion, while Tarot Reading can, and frequently does, provide the best outcome(s) of events, those outcomes are merely suggestions or predictions of what could happen if a client continues on a certain path and, based on their current state of predictability, are most likely to fulfil. However, the fact that the client has made a decision to reach out to a Tarot Reader does indicate a willingness to embrace change and travel along a different path.
The question is then raised – Is the Tarot Reading offering a prediction of the future OR instead influencing the future through the counselling and advice being offered?
Universal (Divine) Energy Guidance
So when Universe offers the Tarot Reader guidance through the Tarot spread information that clients already know, it is doing so because the clients’ actions (energies) precipitated their circumstances in the first place, and they probably need to be reminded of such. This in turn can have a direct influence on their personal journey regarding their future actions and eventual outcome.
For each reading I ask the client to place their thoughts and energies into the cards, as I believe that Tarot is a tool linking us to Universal (divine) knowledge, intuitive guidance and our unconscious minds that manifests our actions and probable intentions. Therefore it is of little wonder when a client states that “I already know this”. In which case clients should realise it is their actions, and the repercussions, that got them to this point, and they should therefore learn from these actions in order to avoid repetition of the mistakes!
But will they?
Literally days after being told to avoid certain actions or events, or face dire consequences; the client returns, ‘tail between their legs’ seeking advice to repair the damage that could have been avoided.
Free Will indeed…
Looking at things in a different way through Tarot Reading
Imagine that you are the Tarot Card reader; you have a certain confidence about you that has been engineered through years of experience and a healthy client base generated by many repeats and recommendations. You must be doing something right? So just to ‘throw the spanner into the works’ you keep being asked the same two questions:
- How accurate are you?
- When will all of this happen?
Based on the assumptions of the above narrative ‘Free Will’ verses ‘Creatures of Habit’ postulation, the answers could be as follows:
- How Predictable are you?
- Whenever you decide to make it happen or never, it’s your choice.
But that would be a flippant over simplification as answers.
Reality
How can the Tarot Reader actually confirm that what they are saying is accurate? They can’t!
It would be easier for a Tarot Reader to talk about a life 10 years hence, it is not immediately confirmable, and thus will take years before the client can determine if it was accurate or not. Alternatively, discussing current issues that are based on a client’s habits is more defining and open to immediate rebuttal; so a reader who is able to determine information on current events that are immediately confirmable are much, much harder to “fudge”.
Also, detailing current events with a short probability line means that the client is able to wait out the information to see if things unfold in the way foretold. To be able to detail current events that are unknown by the reader is a greater test of skill than to speak of things that will take years to unfold, if ever.
